Kilmarnock South Substation
Kilmarnock South Substation is situated to the south east of Kilmarnock and plays a crucial part in the Network forming a hub for a number of transmission lines.
SP Energy Networks have a key strategic role in the connection of renewable generation in Scotland and as a result, a significant level of activity on the Transmission Network is ongoing to facilitate these connections along with other additional demands. The planned work at Kilmarnock South Substation is part of our Network Reinforcement Programme.
The work at the substation will involve an extension to the existing site allowing the construction of two buildings within which much of the new equipment will be installed. This will involve significant changes to the current layout of the site and associated activity will also be required at some of the adjacent Transmission Towers (pylons) allowing their connection into the new equipment.
Construction work on the project started in May 2016 with the completion date programmed to be in the last quarter of 2019.
