Clackmannanshire drivers urged to plan-ahead for weekend road closures in April

28/03/2025

Drivers in the Kincardine area are being advised of weekend road closures to enable essential work to upgrade the electricity network.

The A977 will close from 19.30 on Friday 4 April until 06.00 on Monday 7 April and again from 19.30 on Friday 11 April to 06.00 on Monday 14 April (no longer required due to good progress on works) as SP Energy Networks undertakes vital work on the electricity network in the area.

Ahead of each weekend closure, two-way traffic lights will be in place on the A977 from Monday to Friday to allow preparatory works to take place in advance of the full road closure.

The network operator will be installing cable-ducting on the A977 at Kilbagie, north of Kincardine, to help deliver a more resilient and reliable electricity network in the area.  The work is part of wider upgrades to address constraints and increase capacity on the network.

SP Energy Networks has worked with Clackmannanshire Council and Bear Scotland to plan the road closures, which also extend to pedestrians and cyclists, and will have signage in place in advance to warn road users about the road closures and traffic management.

During the closures, an all-vehicle diversion will be in place which will divert traffic from Kilbagie Roundabout via the A876 Clackmannanshire bridge and the A975 Kincardine bridge. Local access will be preserved throughout, including to Tulliallan golf course (from the south via Kincardine).

Raymond Lindsay, site manager for SP Energy Networks, said: “We’re investing in our electricity network to help all of our customers move towards an all-electric future.

“The work we are carrying out in Clackmannanshire will help provide a more resilient and reliable electricity network for the region as well as ensuring there is enough space on the network for our customers to connect in their low carbon technologies, like heat pumps and electric vehicles.

“We apologise for any disruption caused by the works and would urge any road users to plan ahead during if they are travelling within the area during both these weekends in early April.”
