Holyrood Park Footpath Closed for Urgent Electricity Network Repairs Until 7 August
Pedestrians and cyclists using Holyrood Park are being advised of a temporary closure on the Duddingston Low Road footpath while SP Energy Networks carries out urgent repairs to an underground electricity cable.
The closure came into effect on Friday 24 July and will remain in place until Friday 7 August to allow specialist teams to safely repair a fault on the local electricity network.
The work is required to maintain a safe and reliable power supply for thousands of homes and businesses in the surrounding area.
Because of the technical complexity of the repairs, the affected section of the route will be fully closed to both pedestrians and cyclists throughout the duration of the work.
Diversion Route in Place
A signed diversion route has been established via the Innocent Railway Path, with advisory warning signs installed across the park to inform visitors of the closure and alternative access arrangements.
We encourage park users to follow the diversion and allow additional time for their journeys while the repairs are completed.
Keeping Power Supplies Secure
David Climie, District General Manager for Edinburgh and the Borders, said:
“We know Duddingston Low Road is a popular walking and cycling route, especially at this time of the year, but it’s vital we get in and complete the necessary repairs to ensure there is no impact on local power supplies.
“Our thanks in advance to all those using the route for their patience and understanding – we will complete the works and reopen the footpath as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Additional Information
Duddingston Low Road is already closed to vehicle traffic because of a risk of rock fall. As a result, motorists are not affected by the emergency repair works.
Visitors planning to walk or cycle through Holyrood Park are advised to follow all signage and use the designated diversion route during the closure period.
