Public consultation begins on Callisterhall Wind Farm connection

17/11/2025

People in Dumfries & Galloway will have the chance to have their say on the proposed routing of the overhead line connecting the proposed Callisterhall Wind Farm to the local electricity network.

SP Energy Networks is consulting on the suggested 15km ‘preferred route’, which will connect the wind farm near Winterhope Reservoir, east of Lockerbie, to the Gretna substation in Dumfries & Galloway.

The new overhead line will be on dark brown wooden poles 14-16 (m) high – and spaced 65-100m apart -.

The developer-funded connection will help deliver more green power into the network to support increasing demand for electricity enabling more low-carbon technologies like electric vehicles and heat pumps.

Local people are being invited to find out more about the project, meet the team and ask any questions at a local community drop-in event.

Tuesday 2 December 2 -7pm: Chapelknowe Village Hall, Canonbie DG14 0YF

Anyone unable to attend the events can find out more about the project online by visiting: - Callisterhall Wind Farm Connection - SP Energy Networks

Consultation on the project will run from 1 December 2025 to 16 January 2026 and during this time members of the public can share their views by:

Filling out a feedback form online (live from 1 December)

Submitting by post to:

Callisterhall Wind Farm Connection, Land and Planning Team, SP Energy Networks, 55 Fullarton Drive, Glasgow, G32 8FA

Or by sending an email with feedback to:

callisterhallconnectionproject@spenergynetworks.co.uk

Feedback received during the first round of consultation on our preferred route will be taken into consideration alongside findings of environmental surveys to help identify the final proposed route for the overhead line.

Details of this will be shared as part of further public engagement in late 2026.

All consultation feedback helps inform the development of a consent application, which we plan to submit to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit in spring 2027.

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: “We’re delivering the biggest upgrade the grid has ever seen – ensuring our electricity network supports a cleaner and greener future for all – and working with the communities we serve to deliver the best possible outcomes is at the heart of this.

“The project is currently in its early stages, and we would like to hear your views on the preferred route running from the proposed Callisterhall Wind Farm to the substation at Gretna.

“There is real value and benefit in communities taking part in consultations and we hope that people take the time to look at the proposals and feedback or if they can, come along to the community drop-in.”
