SP Energy Networks is set to start work on a £22 million project to reinforce the electricity network in Mid-Wales and North Shropshire by constructing a new 132,000 volt wooden pole power line between Legacy, Wrexham and Oswestry, North Shropshire.
This circuit is required to ensure the resilience of existing electricity supplies to 130,000 homes and businesses covering the Oswestry, Ellesmere, Welshpool, Newtown and surrounding areas. The full project consists of 5km of underground cable and 21km of overhead wooden pole line. Planning consent was received in May 2013, with work due to start later this month and complete in the Summer of 2015.
Mark Sobczak, Programme Manager for SP Energy Networks, said:
“We are committed to investing in our electricity network, this project secures the energy needs for our existing customers and thriving businesses in the local area.”
The company is committed to keeping local residents and key stakeholders informed of the work, and every attempt is being made to avoid disruption to the local area. SP Energy Networks has developed a work programme that aims to not interrupt any supplies to customers during this work.
