Andershaw Windfarm - Limmer Hill Windfarm to Coalburn Substation 132kV Transmission Line

In South Lanarkshire planning applications are being progressed for two windfarms; Andershaw, approximately 4km south of Douglas, and Limmer Hill, 3km south of Rigside.  Both windfarms require to be connected to the electricity grid via the Coalburn substation.  SP Transmission has identified that the grid connection is best achieved through the development of a new single circuit 132kV overhead line utilising wood pole structures.

132kV Overhead Line Between Legacy and Oswestry - Consultation

SP EnergyNetworks, on behalf of SP Manweb has completed a public consultation exercise on proposals for a new 132kV overhead wood pole line between Legacy Substation, Wrexham and Oswestry Substation. The new overhead line will secure power supplies to homes and busineses in Wales and Shropshire.

The consultation resulted in a review of the preferred route and the identification of an alternative route. A second stage of consultation was carried out in September 2007. To bring all of these comments together, a Report on Consultation has been produced as a record of the consultation process related to the Consultation Document, the comments received and SP Manweb’s responses.
A ‘proposed’ route for the overhead line has been confirmed and a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be now be undertaken. Once the EIA has been completed, an application for consent will be submitted to the DBERR. The EIA will accompany the application for consent.

Proposed 400/132kV Substation to be Located at Bearholm, Approximately 3.5km South of Moffat

SP Transmission Ltd (SPT), is proposing to build a new grid supply substation near Moffat, in Dumfries and Galloway. The substation is needed to facilitate a connection to the existing electricity grid network for the proposed Windfarm at nearby Harestanes (Forest of Ae). As well as the new substation, the project will require a short deviation of the existing cross border overhead line, the installation of 16km of underground cable linking the Windfarm to the substation and a compensatory flood storage area. The compensatory storage area is located to the north of the substation adjacent to the Evan Water.

Applications for consent for the development have been submitted to the Scottish Ministers under section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 (as amended) for the proposed overhead line deviation, and to Dumfries and Galloway Council under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 for the proposed substation. Both applications were accompanied by the ES attached below. Following statutory consultation, as part of the planning process, further detailed work was required to address flood risk issues for the proposed substation, surrounding land and property. Attached, along with the ES is an Addendum that was prepared and will be submitted as an amendment to the planning application for the substation.

Copies of both documents can be downloaded here. Details for comments and queries can be found in the documents.
