Future-proofing our network in Lymm

We are delivering a major upgrade to modernise the electricity network in Lymm, so we can meet increasing demands for electricity in a cleaner and greener future.

We are replacing a 13km cable connection in Lymm to future-proof the local network and ensure a safe, reliable and resilient electricity supply for the region.

The project is being delivered in stages, with work starting at two separate locations in Lymm on Monday 5 January 2025. The work involves digging sections of road and footpaths to replace old cables, then connecting the new cables to various points on our local supply network.

The work is scheduled for completion in July 2026, by which time the new, modern cable connection will be in place and supporting a reliable supply of electricity that’s fit for the future.

We’re working with Warrington-based partner Opus Utility Solutions to deliver the work, which will start with installing a section of the cable on Cherry Lane and the Lymm Footpath.

Diversion routes and signage will be in place to make people aware, and we will complete the work as safely and quickly as possible to minimise disruption.

We’ll ensure access to properties and businesses is always maintained, and do not expect electricity supplies to be interrupted as a result of this work.

Our plans have been agreed with Warrington Borough Council and are designed to minimise disruption to road users.

Further updates on our work in the area, including diversion routes, are available to view online at https://one.network

We are keeping the local community regularly informed as our work progresses, with a series of letters, emails, drop-in sessions and webinars. A link to our latest project webinar is provided here.

Project Progress

Newfield Road

All work along Newfield Road has now been completed, meaning residents can once again reach their homes without obstacles. It’s the kind of improvement that feels small on paper but makes a big difference in daily life.

Daisy Bank Road

After work starting last week on Daisy Bank Road, we can say that this will be fully reinstated and cleared by Monday 23rd February. Our contractor OPUS has shown its expertise having excavated, complete works, and returned the road to residents for regular, undisturbed daily use.

Booths Hill Road

Work on Booths Hill Road has taken longer than planned after a damaged watermain despite all the careful surveying done upfront kept springing leaks and quite literally washing away progress. It’s one of those hidden problems that rarely makes headlines but can bring everything to a standstill.

We know that living with temporary lights and day-to-day travel disruptions can be a drain on your patience. That’s exactly why our contractor, OPUS, is pulling out all the stops to get things back on track. Their aim is simple: to get Booths Hill Road finished as quickly as possible so you can enjoy those uneventful journeys that only feel unremarkable once you’ve got them back.

Moston Grove

Work will soon begin on Moston Grove, where we’ve secured access to two parking bays so materials can be stored neatly and your streets kept clear throughout the project. The work is expected to last around two weeks.

We know that parking isn’t just a convenience, it's a daily necessity for many residents. That’s why the use of these bays has been agreed directly with the people who live nearby. And because they’re not ‘pay and display’ spaces, no additional permissions from Warrington Borough Council are required.

With a little cooperation and patience from the community, the work will be completed as swiftly as possible, and the parking bays will be returned to residents just as soon as they’re no longer needed.

All ongoing work at the entrance to Moston Grove will be completed and clear by Monday 23rd.

Higher Lane

Work on Higher Lane is ticking along nicely and we’re halfway through the stretch with all work remaining on schedule. Things have slowed recently due to an ESSO oil pipeline running through the same section of carriageway, which means we need ESSO representatives on site while we operate.

We are working with ESSO to complete this section of work as smoothly as possible.

Nevertheless, the show must go on. Rather than sit around and twiddle our thumbs, the crew will head over to Burford Lane and begin work before circling back to wrap things up on Higher Lane once everything’s cleared.

Lymm View Site Visit

Your feedback has been instrumental. Based on what we heard from residents, a joint site visit with Warrington Borough Council has taken place to review the reinstatement quality along the Lymm View footpath.

We are now waiting on response from Warrington Borough Council on their verdict following the site visit. This page will be updated upon their review.

Stay Informed

All ongoing work has been designed to keep momentum high and disruption low, that is why we are continuously working with our contractor OPUS and Warrington Borough Council to complete work safely and efficiently.

The project timeline below is indicative and may shift as technical, statutory, and environmental factors come into play because real-world engineering rarely behaves as neatly as a spreadsheet.

We’ll keep this page refreshed regularly, so the most up-to-date information is always in one place. If you’re ever wondering what’s happening next, this remains the simplest and most reliable source.
