Donations have been made to New Cumnock Bowling Club on behalf of SP Energy Networks following the network operator’s work to complete a windfarm connection in the area.

The donated items include emergency food rations, torches, three refrigerators, three toasters, three kettles, and a defibrillator. These resources were personally delivered by David Marshall, SPEN Site Manager, to Stuart Ballantyne, Secretary of the New Cumnock Community Council.

The items were given to mark the successful energisation of the North Kyle Windfarm project and its connection to the New Cumnock Substation.

Stuart Ballantyne, New Cumnock Community Council Secretary said “On behalf of the Community Council we would like to express a big thanks to SP Energy Networks for the kind donation. The presence of a local defibrillator will benefit the community beyond the members of the bowling club and give residents the peace of mind that help if there, should they ever need it.”

Upon completion, the North Kyle Windfarm can generate over 200 MW of clean energy. This substantial output is equivalent to the average energy use of approximately 160,000 homes, representing a significant contribution to renewable energy generation in the region.

In addition to its environmental impact, the North Kyle Windfarm project demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable practices and community development within East Ayrshire.

Shijo Vadakkekunnel, Project Manager, SP Energy Networks: “The successful energisation of the North Kyle Windfarm is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team. As the first project within SP Energy Networks to utilise Building Information Modelling (BIM), it shows our dedication to innovation, overcoming the challenges associated with integrating such a substantial amount of clean energy into the grid. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team for their hard work and commitment in making this project a success.

“We’re pleased to have been able to donate these items to New Cumnock Bowling Club as a thank you for their patience and support as we delivered this connection.”
