We are holding two public information events this February to present our final plans for the Denny to Wishaw upgrade project.
Last year, two rounds of public consultation events were held on the project, with the project team presenting our proposals and engaging with the local community on any concerns or questions. Feedback from these consultations has then helped shape the final proposals for the project.
Trevor McGhee, Project Manager, said: "Our Denny to Wishaw upgrade project is part of our major rewiring of Scotland's transmission grid to provide more space on the network for homegrown, green electricity to travel across the country and power our everyday lives.
"We would like to thank everyone who has engaged with us on our plans for the Denny to Wishaw project and hope to see members of the community on 24 and 25 February as we present our final plans ahead of submitting planning applications."
Ahead of submitting the consent applications in spring 2026, we are holding two public information events for residents in Cumbernauld and Denny to see the final plans. The events are being held on:
Tuesday 24 February, 2-7pm: Cumbernauld New Town Hall, Bron Way, Cumbernauld G67 1DZ
Wednesday 25 February, 2-7pm: Bonnybridge Community Education Centre, Bridge Street, Bonnybridge FK4 1AA
For those unable to attend, information on the final plans for the project are available here on our website: Denny to Wishaw network upgrade
The Denny to Wishaw project would include construction of a new 400,000-volt (400kV) overhead transmission line between a substation at Bonnybridge and a point near Glenmavis, where it would join on to an existing overhead line. There are also plans to move the existing line further away from houses at Glenmavis. A 'spur' from the new line to Cumbernauld substation will also allow for the removal of the existing 132kV overhead line between Bonnybridge and Cumbernauld.
In addition, the voltage of the three existing overhead lines will be increased from 275kV to 400kV, and substations at Denny North, Bonnybridge, Cumbernauld and Wishaw will be upgraded.
Should planning permission be granted for the project, it is expected that the works would begin in spring 2027.
