Further work planned as part of £7 million electricity upgrade for East Kilbride

25/09/2014

SP Energy Networks is currently modernising the electricity network in East Kilbride, to help ensure the continued reliability of services for homes and businesses in the area. As part of the improvements, four miles of new cable is being installed along Greenhills Road, which will connect a new substation being installed in the Jackton area.

The next phase of work involves completing the section between Stroud Road and Lickprivick Road over 9 day period from Saturday 11th to Sun 19th October. This section of road will be temporarily closed to allow work to be completed safely and as quickly as possible. Diversion routes will be posted in advance.

SP Energy Networks Programme Manager Mark Stewart, said:

“During the improvement programme, unfortunately it is sometimes necessary to use traffic management procedures to ensure the safety of the local community. We appreciate the patience of local residents while this essential work is being carried out, and after feedback from residents we have made some changes to our plans. This next phase of work has now been scheduled to coincide with the school holidays, to help minimise the impact on traffic in the area.

“This investment will ensure that the electricity network in the East Kilbride area is modern and robust, and will help us to continue to deliver a highly reliable service for thousands of homes and businesses in the long term.”
