Introducing SP Energy Networks’ Scotstoun Squad

20/11/2023

In partnership with Glasgow Warriors, we are launching the SP Energy Networks Scotstoun Squad - a group of volunteers stationed around the stadium on matchdays to help anyone who might need some extra support on the day.

To make sure a great day out is had by everyone who attends a match at the Scotstoun Stadium, we worked with several Glasgow charities to understand how best to make the stadium more accessible for everyone.

The squad will support our efforts to make a positive impact on the communities we serve and enhance the services at Glasgow Warriors events for people with additional support needs.

Part of this work includes aiming to host a quiet space at open training sessions; improving communication of accessibility services with a new dedicated web page and guided videos; including British Sign Language translation on key event videos on match day; and offering sensory packs on match day, and a sensory space at selected matches with Aoife’s Bus.

Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “Glasgow Warriors are delighted to be deepening our relationship with SP Energy Networks. We are both driven to deliver on our shared vision to positively impact people in our city and throughout the west of Scotland.

“As a professional sports club we are privileged to have such a proactive sponsor that wants to work in our community and help our people, be that players and coaches or staff and volunteers, to make a truly meaningful impact on everyone that is involved or experiences our club.

“With that in mind, the SP Energy Networks Scotstoun Squad are often the very first people that new visitors and supporters to Glasgow Warriors matches and events meet. Therefore, they play a vital role in setting the tone of who we are as a club.

“We are determined to make sure we are the most welcoming professional rugby in the world and live up to the city’s own mantra that ‘People Make Glasgow’ and look forward to working with SP Energy Networks in the coming season to achieve that.”

As a distribution and transmission network operator, we keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses across Central and Southern Scotland. In addition to the community initiatives delivered in partnership with Glasgow Warriors, we offer additional support to our customers, particularly those who might need a little extra help, through Priority Services Register and additional support services.

SP Energy Networks CEO, Vicky Kelsall, said: “At SP Energy Networks, supporting vulnerable customers across the communities we serve is at the top of our customer engagement agenda.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Glasgow Warriors to create more inclusive spaces where we can engage with our communities in an environment accessible to everyone.

“Our new partnership initiatives have played a pivotal role in shaping the home of Glasgow Warriors into a more accessible community engagement hub and we look forward to working together on fostering inclusivity and carving out more spaces open to all.”

We have been working together with Glasgow Warriors to engage with local communities in new ways since the launch of the partnership – from breaking barriers in sport and engineering to recognising local community heroes and delivering educational STEM activities. Over the upcoming season, this partnership will continue to deliver new initiatives celebrating our communities, supporting skills development, and building a more inclusive world of rugby and engineering.

Throughout 2023/24 the SP Energy Networks Scotstoun Squad will be branded in SP Energy Networks green jackets, helping them stand out amongst the Warrior Nation and making them easily identifiable around the stadium.
