New rapid charging solution rolled out across key operational sites following successful trial
SP Energy Networks is rolling out innovative new electric vehicle (EV) charging technology across three operational sites as part of its commitment to building a more sustainable fleet and supporting the transition to net zero.
Following a successful trial at its Middlewich depot in Cheshire, we have partnered with TUAL to deploy its PowerUp Charger technology at sites in Middlewich, Liverpool and Cambuslang near Glasgow.
The technology will support our growing electric vehicle fleet, helping operational teams keep vehicles charged and ready to respond while reducing emissions from day-to-day activities.
TUAL's PowerUp Charger combines battery energy storage with high-power DC charging, enabling ultra-rapid charging without the need for extensive site upgrades or significant civil engineering works. The solution is particularly valuable at operational depots where site constraints, infrastructure limitations or future development plans can make traditional charging installations more challenging.
The rollout follows a successful pilot at Middlewich, where the technology demonstrated it could be deployed quickly, deliver the charging capability required for operational vehicles and provide additional flexibility through its ability to be relocated if site requirements change.
The integrated battery storage also enhances operational resilience, helping maintain fleet readiness should there be a disruption to power supplies.

It was a no-brainer to build on the success of our trial by rolling out this innovative technology to these three key locations."
