SPEN launches power safety competition for primary schools across

13/11/2017

We've just launched a new power safety competition for primary schools in Central & Southern Scotland, Cheshire, Merseyside, North Shropshire and North Wales which gives pupils a chance of winning a brand new iPad for their class.

Thousands of pupils will be invited to take part in PowerWise Champions, an interactive lesson in the importance of staying safe around electricity, before completing a drawing challenge to win their school the exciting prize which also includes a power safety session from one of our engineers.

PowerWise Champions is a power safety initiative run by our business. The initiative encourages pupils to learn about the importance of staying safe around electricity through a free online educational resource which is available to teachers, parents and kids.

Schools will also be given the opportunity to nominate their PowerWise Champion, a pupil who will be selected as their school’s power safety ambassador and be the individual that passes on their power safety knowledge to their school peers and friends on how to behave in the event of a power cut.

Stephen Stewart, Director, SP Energy Networks, said: “Here at SP Energy Networks we’re all enthused by power and how it affects everything around us. We’re proud to be able to bring our vital safety messaging into schools, sharing the importance of being prepared for a power emergency. There’s loads of simple steps that we can bear in mind to make sure we keep safe in a power cut. Hopefully our PowerWise Champions initiative will generate excitement and enthusiasm for power safety. We look forward to seeing all of the entries!”

PowerWise is a free teaching resource available to school teachers to help educate pupils on the importance of power safety. All lesson concepts are interactive, intriguing and linked to the national curricula. Teachers and parents can register to access the free resources at powerwise.org.uk.

The competition closes on 31st January 2018. For more information on PowerWise, visit powerwise.org.uk
