Audio Transcript: Predict4Resilience

The text below is the transcript from the Predict4Resilience video. An audio-described version of the video is also available.

As a result of climate change, we are facing more frequent and extreme weather events than ever before. These risk network faults and customers losing their electricity connection. On top of this as we connect more renewable technology, our network is less stable and a network fault has the potential to cause a larger impact to more customers.

To minimise network outages and protect our security of supply, a lot of progress has been made to forecast these events, there are still two things we cannot do:

Forecast more than a few days ahead

Identify or predict where faults will be as a result from these events

However, by combining latest weather forecasting products with novel statistical post-processing we believe we can develop actionable forecasts of extreme weather, with details on specific network faults and risks.

We are targeting to forecast two weeks ahead – doubling the current forecasting range.

In the discovery phase we will assess the possibility to deliver this ambition with available weather and power system data.

Hi! I'm the SP Energy Networks System Agent, can I help you?
