So, you are thinking of purchasing Low Carbon Technology, like an electric vehicle or heat pump?
As a Distribution and Transmission Network Operator we keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North & Mid Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Shropshire.
No matter who you pay your electricity bill to, it's our team who keep your electricity flowing. Our engineers manage and maintain our network of substations, underground cables and overhead lines serving over 6m customers.
That means your new Low Carbon Technology will connect to our network, and we will transport electricity to and from it, helping the UK on its journey to net zero.
You’ll need to submit an ENA application form to apply, but our dedicated teams are here to work with you to make the process as smooth as possible.
Sometimes, we may need to carry out some work on our network to allow you to connect – ensuring the power keeps flowing to homes and businesses. This is free of charge, and we work with your installer to make it as simple as possible.
For more information on how you (or your installer) can apply to connect, visit our website for more details, or email us for more info.
So, you’ve purchased low Carbon Technology, like an EV or a heat pump?
Congratulations on your purchase of new Low Carbon Technology. As the distribution and transmission network operator for your area, we are here to help you connect to our electricity network safely, securely, and quickly.
To enable you to connect, first you, or your installer, must apply to connect to our network through an Energy Networks Association online form, available on our website, or use our Identify App.
Our dedicated assessment team will assess your application and determine if any modernisation work is needed to connect you safely to our network. Only 1 in 4 applications generally require some form of upgrade to their property.
Where any modernisation work is required, our dedicated project Co-ordinators will help you through the process. They will work with our Service Partners to carry out a survey to determine what is needed, and fully understand any possible impacts to you and the local community. Regardless of the scale of any works carried out, they will be completed free of charge.
The level of work needed can vary. It could be as simple as changing a fuse in your meter cupboard or upgrading the underground cables outside your property. We will always look to minimise any required excavation work in your garden or driveway when designing this. Sometimes this can take additional time to plan, as it may also involve upgrades to neighbouring properties. Where this is the case, we would need their cooperation, as we may need access to their property, at the same time as we carry out work on your supply.
We may also need to obtain a permit from the local authority to allow us to complete any excavation works on the public road or foot path. Depending on the local authorities’ rules for your area, notices can take up to 90 days to gain a permit.
All this preparation and planning will help us ensure a safe and secure connection and ready the electricity network for net zero. We know that delays can be frustrating, but our dedicated team will keep you informed, and work to get your new Low Carbon Technology onto the network as quickly as possible.
