SP Transmission is one of the three transmission operators in Great Britain. We are responsible for the movement of electricity at high voltages in central and southern Scotland. Our electricity grid was originally built in the 1930s, for a very different world than the one we know today. Our lives rely on electricity and we need a grid can cope with demand doubling by 2050, so we need to move fast.
We need a system that can heat and light more homes and businesses, enable more green transport, and connect more of the technology that we rely on. And we need to make sure it's accessible to everyone. We are at the heart of the transformation of the electricity system, and we are planning to invest more than 12 billion pounds in the next five years, to grow the transmission network, to increase capacity and to move more electricity to where it's needed, when that's needed.
We will update existing lines and cables, create new routes, and continue to maintain our existing assets to the highest standard, boosting our energy security. And as we do all of this, we’ll work with our communities to share the benefits. We will create jobs, invest in the environment, and we will work to make sure everyone can enjoy a cleaner, electric future.
Moving the grid forward moves us all forward.
