A public consultation event took place at Barrhill Memorial Hall on 1st May 2019, 2pm – 6.30pm allowing local people to comment on the proposed overhead line route, which will connect Stranoch and Chirmorie wind farms to Mark Hill substation. Feedback from this event will be considered prior to the proposed route being finalised. The route has been altered since the previous public consultation on this project, as the overall length has reduced and the route itself has been moved east.
The proposed development is to construct a new 132 kV overhead line (OHL) supported on ‘trident’ wood poles, approximately 15m in height, with span lengths of approximately 80-100m. A mix of both double and single Double wood poles are likely to be utilised. The proposed development would provide a connection from the proposed substation associated with the consented Stranoch Wind Farm via the proposed substation associated with the consented Chirmorie wind farm substation to Mark Hill substation, a distance of approximately 10km.
Following establishment of the proposed route, SP Energy Networks intends to submit an application to the Scottish Ministers for consent under section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 and deemed planning permission under section 57 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997, to construct a new 132 kilovolt (kV) single circuit overhead line (OHL) to connect both the consented Stranoch wind farm and the consented Chirmorie wind farm to the national transmission grid at Mark Hill substation, located approximately 4 km north of the village of Barrhill, in South Ayrshire.
