Coalburn North Substation

SP Energy Networks are proposing to construct a new 400kV substation at Coalburn in South Lanarkshire, immediately to the north of the existing Coalburn substation.  The location of the proposed substation is approximately 1 km to the south of Lesmahagow and 1.5 km northeast of Coalburn village.  The development is required to allow proposed renewable energy development in the wider area to connect to the transmission network.

Planning Application

Coalburn North substation is currently at the design consultation stage with an application for planning permission to be prepared for submission to South Lanarkshire Council.  As the overall application boundary is likely to be greater than 2 hectares, the application is considered Major Development under Town and Country Planning (Hierarchy of Developments) (Scotland) Regulations 2009.

As a Major Development, SPEN are required to undertake pre-application consultation on the proposals. SPEN is committed to undertaking meaningful and wide-reaching consultation and is therefore currently planning on holding two in-person consultation events. These events will be held at the following locations, times and dates:

Monday 4th December 2023, 3pm - 8pm: Coalburn One Stop Shop, 42 Coalburn Road, Coalburn, ML11 0HN

Monday 5th February 2024, 3pm - 8pm: Coalburn One Stop Shop , 42 Coalburn Road, Coalburn, ML11 0HN
