As the electricity network operator for central and southern Scotland, we play a vital role in enabling the country’s transition to Net Zero. We want that to be a fair transition and we are committed to taking our communities on that journey with us. That is why we developed our community funds dedicated to supporting our communities and their local ambitions.
Our commitment to supporting communities aligns with the UK Government’s guidance on community funding for transmission infrastructure. We have developed our funding approach based on the lessons learned from previous funds and feedback from stakeholders to ensure that our funds are fit for purpose and aligned with the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve.
In our RIIO-T3 Business Plan, we’ve set out how we’ll support communities to turn ideas into viable projects, create lasting impact through targeted funding.
Unlocking lasting benefits in the communities we serve
We have already awarded £25m of funding to our communities through our industry leading Transmission Net Zero Fund and Green Economy Fund. By funding innovative community-led projects, we have enabled communities to adopt greener energy solutions – from electrifying transport and installing low-carbon technology to creating warmer and more energy efficient community spaces. These projects are not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change, but they also lead to economic benefits like energy cost savings and job creation, alongside social benefits like improved health and wellbeing.
