Denny North-Lambhill-Windyhill Uprating Project

SP Energy Networks is upgrading the grid in central and southern Scotland.

With total electricity demand set to double by 2050, we need a grid that’s ready to meet future energy needs, while boosting the nation’s energy security for generations to come.

To help make this happen, we need to uprate our existing overhead lines between Denny North, Lambhill and Windyhill substations and complete some internal substation works. This will help strengthen the electricity transmission network and guarantee secure energy supplies for the future. This existing infrastructure feeds the wider Dunbartonshire, City of Glasgow and Renfrewshire transmission networks.

In Q3 of 2026,  we intend to consult local people on our initial proposals. We will then revise our plans and consult local people again in Q1 2027.  All materials available at these events will be made accessible on this page in due course.
