Douglas North Substation

SP Energy Networks have recently successfully completed the construction of Douglas North Substation which is situated alongside the B7078 to the south of Lesmahagow in South Lanarkshire.

As the owner of the transmission network, SP Energy Networks (SPEN) has received requests to connect three new wind farms to the electricity network. The wind farms will connect into the new Douglas North Substation - this will "tie-in" to the already installed Middlemuir Windfarm underground cable as it routes past the new substation to the existing Coalburn Substation.

Douglas North

The program of activity for the substation construction was completed ahead of schedule and the installation of a modular control building which was the first of its kind. The first windfarm due to be connected to the substation is Douglas West.

Covid-19

SP Energy Networks have reviewed all our working practices at site and introduced a range of additional measures which will allow us to carry out the work as safely as possible.

As SP Energy Networks undertake projects such as Douglas North Substation we play a key part in supporting the countries move to clean energy and a low carbon sustainable environment.
