Whenever you flick a switch in central or southern Scotland you’re using electricity that’s been brought to you by SP Energy Networks.
SP Energy Networks is part of the ScottishPower Group of companies. We transmit, distribute and connect electricity to and from homes and businesses through a network of overhead lines and underground cables that we own and maintain.
We take electricity generated from power stations, wind farms and various other utilities and transport it through a transmission network consisting of more than 4,000 kilometres of overhead and 320 kilometres of underground lines. We also have 132 substations in our transmission network where we take the high voltage supply and reduce it to the low voltage needed for the distribution network which supplies your home.
Through our transmission and distribution networks we provide power to:
1.5 million customers in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and North Shropshire (SP Manweb plc)
2 million customers in Central and Southern Scotland (SP Transmission plc and SP Distribution plc)
