VSRE – XH XJ Major Refurbishment works
We are upgrading around 74km of 400kV overhead electricity lines between Strathaven, Wishaw, Kaimes and Smeaton. This project will replace ageing conductors with modern, higher-capacity technology, alongside essential refurbishment of towers, foundations and associated equipment. Delivered in phases through 2026-28, these improvements will strengthen the network, support reliable electricity supplies and enable more renewable energy to be transported from Scotland to homes and businesses across Great Britain. VSRE is one of our suite of strategic projects, read more about these in our RIIO-T3 Business Plan.
These works include:
- XH Route (XH001-XH037A): 400kV Double Circuit Overhead line from Strathaven Substation to Wishaw 400kV Substation
- XJ Route (XJ001-XJ182B): 400kV Double Circuit Overhead line from Wishaw Substation via Kaimes Substation to Smeaton Substation
