We are delivering a major upgrade to modernise the electricity network in Lymm, so we can meet increasing demands for electricity in a cleaner and greener future.
We are replacing a 13km cable connection in Lymm to future-proof the local network and ensure a safe, reliable and resilient electricity supply for the region.
The project is being delivered in stages, with work starting at two separate locations in Lymm on Monday 5 January 2025. The work involves digging sections of road and footpaths to replace old cables, then connecting the new cables to various points on our local supply network.
The work is scheduled for completion in August 2026, by which time the new, modern cable connection will be in place and supporting a reliable supply of electricity that’s fit for the future.
We’re working with Warrington-based partner Opus Utility Solutions to deliver the work, which will start with installing a section of the cable on Cherry Lane and the Lymm Footpath.
Diversion routes and signage will be in place to make people aware, and we will complete the work as safely and quickly as possible to minimise disruption.
We’ll ensure access to properties and businesses is always maintained, and do not expect electricity supplies to be interrupted as a result of this work.
Our plans have been agreed with Warrington Borough Council and are designed to minimise disruption to road users.

Recent Schedule Updates
Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, our site teams have taken the decision to temporarily pause activity across several locations around Bollin Drive and neighbouring areas in Lymm.
We know pauses like this can create uncertainty, so we want to be open with what it means for the schedule, and what can be expected next.
What this means for residents
In the short term, excavations have been reinstated and roads have been reopened on Bollin Drive & Whitefield Grove
However, we will need to return to some areas to finish the final stages of the cable connection at a later date.
We understand this is frustrating for residents impacted, and we will communicate early and clearly before any work recommences.
Our commitment
We know trust is built through transparency, especially when plans change. That’s why we’ll continue to:

- Explain delays honestly, including when they stem from unplanned circumstances
- Keep disruption as low as possible once activity resumes
