Powering a Cleaner and Greener Oswestry

We are delivering a major upgrade on the electricity network in Oswestry, so we can meet increasing demands for electricity in a cleaner and greener future for businesses and homes.

We are installing 3km of new underground electricity cable and upgrading the local substations across the Maes-y-Clawdd area of Oswestry, as we continue with our regional programme of upgrading and replacing ageing equipment in the electricity distribution network – much of which was installed more than 50 years ago.

We’re working alongside OCU Group to deliver these upgrades, which commenced on 16th March and started with upgrades to the Primary Substation on Maes-Y-Clawdd.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2026, by which time the new, modern cable will be in place to boost network capacity to facilitate the connection of more green technologies like electric vehicle chargers, solar panels and heat pumps.

Diversion routes and signage will be in place to make people aware, and we will complete the work as safely and quickly as possible to minimise disruption. To support this, the works will take place in phases, with rolling lane closures as the works move along the route:

  • Maes‑y‑Clawdd (April)
  • Maesbury Road (April-July)
  • Glovers Meadow (May)
  • Radford Fields (June-September)
  • Shrewsbury Road (July-August)
  • Oak Drive (August)
  • College Road (August-September)

We’ll ensure access to properties and businesses is always maintained, and do not expect electricity supplies to be interrupted as a result of this work. Local teams are working to keep local residents and businesses in the affected areas informed as the works progress.

Our plans have been agreed with Shropshire Council and are designed to minimise disruption to road users.

Further updates on our work in the area, including diversion routes, are available to view online at https://one.network.

We know that any disruption to your daily routine can feel bigger than it looks on paper, and we genuinely appreciate your continued patience as this essential work progresses. Our team is working hard to keep the project moving while minimising inconvenience and keeping everyone in the community safe.
