V Route Major Refurbishment

As owners of the transmission network in central and southern Scotland, SP Transmission have recently commenced a major refurbishment project on V Route overhead line which is one of its key transmission lines.

The 132 kV line involved runs between Galashields, Hawick and Harker and has a length of around 68 km. In excess of two hundred and eighty towers will be inspected and receive required maintenance in addition to the  conductors being renewed.

V route is a geographically strategic double circuit overhead line that provides the main high voltage into Hawick and surrounding area also connecting directly into National Grids Harker Substation.

At an investment cost of around £30 million, the programme of work is scheduled to run into 2021.

The line is situated in a rural setting and has involved significant work by SPEN Wayleave Officers as they ensure access arrangements are agreed with in excess of 90 different land owners along the route.

SPENs refurbishment and modernisation projects ensure the transmission network is playing its part in the countries move to clean energy and a more sustainable environment.
