SP Energy Networks (SPEN) have recently commenced operations to connect Whitelaw Brae Windfarm into the network.
Located in the Borders Region, the wind farm will connect into Clyde South Substation.
The activity includes the construction of a remote end collector substation at the wind farm along with a 16 km combined wood pole overhead line and underground cable route back to Clyde South where it connects into the transmission network.

The SPEN Land Team have agreed access arrangements with a number of land owners along the route and in addition to the combined connection design – the project team face a number of challenges including 2 Horizontal Directional Drilling sections under the M74 motorway and the River Tweed – the operations also require the installation of a temporary bridge over the river.
All construction works make efforts to minimise any environmental impact and extensive use of ground protection matts will be made.
Due for connection in July 2026, the windfarm will generate up to 69 MW of clean energy which is the average energy requirement for well over 100,000 homes.
SP Energy Networks are at the heart of net zero as we transition to a more sustainable environment for us all.
