That’s why I am proud to share highlights from our latest Just Transition Report, which reflects the real, measurable progress we’re making to embed fairness, transparency and accountability across our operations. From supporting vulnerable customers to empowering communities and strengthening our supply chain with inclusive practices.
As a senior leader, I am energised by the bold steps we’re taking to ensure that no one is left behind on the journey to Net Zero because a truly sustainable energy future must also be an equitable one.
We know that delivering a fair and inclusive energy transition isn’t something we do to communities - it’s something we do with them. That’s why stakeholder engagement sits at the heart of our approach. Through open dialogue, collaborative workshops, and ongoing consultation, we’ve gathered invaluable feedback that’s helping shape our strategy. One of the most notable outcomes from this feedback this year is the development of dedicated Just Transition Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These metrics, aligned with our four core principles, enable us to measure progress across areas such as:
- emissions reduction
- workforce diversity
- community engagement
- supplier sustainability.
We have created a new annex to our strategy that makes our commitments clearer, more accessible and more accountable.
Our latest Just Transition Report highlights the tangible social value we’ve created across our communities:
- Over £10.5 million to support customers facing fuel poverty
- £180,000 to help households access low-carbon technologies
- Our Energywise initiative, launched in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust, is helping households reduce energy bills and emissions through tailored advice and improvement plans
- Our Net Zero Fund continues to empower communities with funding and capacity-building support, enabling 31 projects and saving nearly 29,000 tonnes of CO₂e
But this transition isn’t just about carbon and infrastructure – it's about people. Internally, we’ve:
- Expanded training and inclusive employment pathways
- Strengthened our digital infrastructure to improve network visibility and planning.
- Achieved a 93% healthcheck score for our independently audited stakeholder engagement strategy Looking ahead, we will continue to report annually, deepen our stakeholder engagement, and refine our impact measurement. In 2026, we’ll undertake a full review of our Just Transition Strategy to ensure it remains ambitious, inclusive and responsive.
As we continue to invest in a sustainable energy future, our focus will stay firmly on delivering outcomes that matter, creating secure green jobs, supporting local supply chains, and empowering communities across our network because this is what a people-powered transition looks like.
