Second round of public consultation begins on new electricity substation near Glenrothes

01/12/2025

We are asking people in Fife to share their views on proposals to build a new electricity substation near Glenrothes.

The preferred site for the new substation is to the north-west of Glenrothes on land adjacent to Pitkeavy Farm and close to the route of the existing overhead line.

The new substation would include plant, switch gear, two electricity transformers, parking and lay-down areas, lighting and three-metre-high palisade security fencing.

We first consulted on the proposal for the new Conland substation in April this year. Feedback from this first round of consultation has helped refine the proposals for the site and address some concerns raised by residents.

Two key areas of feedback were around traffic and visual impact. To minimise traffic impact, the team has confirmed a new access to the site from Hill Road and changes to the internal road layout of the substation. To help minimise visual impact, changes have been made to the overall footprint of the development, location of the SUDS drainage and the earthworks and landscaping surrounding the project.

All of the updated proposals and information will be shown at public exhibitions being held in Newton of Faulklandand Leslie this week to give local people the opportunity to ask any questions direct to the project team.

The community events will be held:

2-7pm, Wednesday 3 December

Newton of Faulkland Village Hall, Main Street, Newton of Faulkland, Cupar, KY15 7QX

12-5pm, Thursday 4 December

Leslie Town Hall, 21 High Street, Leslie KY6 3DA

Mike Inglis, Lead project Manager at SP Energy Networks, said: "The proposed new substation at Conland is part of a programme of investment in the east of Scotland vital to strengthening the UK's electricity transmission network. It will increase capacity to meet future energy needs, improve the resilience of the network and contribute towards achieving the country's clean power ambitions.

"We're upgrading and adding new infrastructure into the network in Fife and beyond and we want to hear from local residents about our plans to help us develop them further.

"Listening to local communities is important to us so we hope that people will get in touch; either by attending the public exhibition in their area, or by contacting us directly."

As well as the public drop-in event, all project documents are on the project page on our website - including an online feedback form.

A Freephone number is also available to ask any questions or request a personal call back from a member of the project team.

Those interested can also receive a paper feedback form and a Freepost envelope to complete and return free of charge.

The second round of pre-application consultation on the proposals for Conland substation will be from 1st until 19th December.
